Even though I have a newfound passion for rock climbing, when wedding season arrives, everything else takes a backseat to the excitement of capturing stunning moments in spectacular venues.

One such venue that always stands out is the Plaza Centre ville hotel in Montreal, Canada. This stunning venue was where I had the pleasure of photographing Harjaap and Devin's wedding reception. Their love story could rival any fairytale, and it was such an honor to be a part of their special day.

It was Christmas Eve, and Erin and I were preparing for our flight to Zanzibar. However, the 25cm of snow at Vancouver Airport had other plans, leading to the cancellation of all flights. In a split-second decision, we decided to drive down to Seattle, a frantic decision that had us on the road by 9pm, skipping our initial Vancouver flight to catch the connection from Seattle. We owe a big thanks to Erin&rsquo;s parents who graciously agreed to pick up our car the next day!
When we landed in Zanzibar, our relief was palpable. We got to spend a wonderful day exploring Stone Town, local spice farms and even picked up some Swahili phrases. The next day, we ventured to Mafia, a small island off Zanzibar known for its Whale Sharks. The island was a hidden gem, untouched by commercialization and the locals were immensely warm and welcoming.
&nbsp;
The following day, we embarked on a quest to find whale sharks on a traditional wooden dhow. The turquoise blue and warm water were captivating, but even after 5 hours, there were no signs of the sharks. Disappointed, we decided to give it another try the next day.
&nbsp;
Again, after 5 hours of searching, no sharks. The disappointment was setting in. Just as I was dozing off on the return ride, I woke to shouts of 'Shark!'. Our guide, Maya, had jumped into the water. We quickly got our gear on, sat on the edge of the boat, and at the shouts of 'Go, Go, Go', we jumped into the choppy water.

The water was rough, and I swallowed sea water, coughing and struggling to stay afloat. I lost sight of Maya and unfortunately didn't get a look at the shark. We were picked up by the boat, only to get ready for another plunge.
&nbsp;
Another attempt, more swallowed water, and still no shark. But as the saying goes, third time&rsquo;s the charm! We jumped into the water, swam as hard as we could towards Maya, and then, out of the dark depths, we saw it. A 10-foot shark, gliding gracefully like an airplane through the water. This majestic creature was surprisingly fast. I quickly took my chance and made a quick dive down to swim alongside the shark for a fleeting, yet unforgettable moment. Unfortunately for Erin, in my excitement, I accidentally kicked her during my dive. A small price to pay for the most exhilarating experience of our lives!

In a similar vein as a charity worker, every day is brimming with a variety of deeds, from early morning calls and breakfast to strategizing the day's tasks. Depending on the day, I might find myself packing essentials for a field trip, diving into an extensive list of donations, or gearing up for a day in the heart of Mashunga, a beautiful project nestled in the vibrant landscapes of Uganda. Recently, I've been juggling my regular work with a newfound passion for charity, particularly focused on assisting children. However, when the festive season rolls in, my routine takes a backseat to the bustle and hustle of planning events, organizing food drives, and coordinating educational initiatives for the children of Mashunga. Mashunga, a quaint project, is dedicated to helping children in Uganda, a country that despite its challenges, never fails to inspire with its resilience and spirit. Much like the Fairmont Empress in Victoria, BC, Canada, which impresses with its grandeur and elegance, Mashunga, though in a different way, leaves an indelible impression with its vitality and the sheer willpower of its children, who strive to learn and grow despite their circumstances. My work with Mashunga is not just about charity, it's about connection. It's about seeing the potential in every child and helping them realize their dreams. It's about those early morning tutoring sessions, those late-night discussions planning the next fundraiser, and the countless hours spent in the heart of Uganda, witnessing firsthand the transformative power of education and support. Every day in Mashunga is a testament to the human spirit, to resilience, and to the power of community. It's about the joy that lights up a child's face when they understand a new concept, the laughter that echoes through the fields during playtime, and the collective sigh of relief when a well runs clear with clean water for the first time. My work with Mashunga is more than charity; it's a labour of love. It's the sweet exhaustion at the end of a long day, the satisfaction of seeing a project come to fruition, and the quiet moments of reflection amidst the Ugandan sunset. It's about making a difference, one child at a time. And as I balance this alongside my regular work, I am reminded of the profound impact a single act of kindness can have. Just as every picture tells a story, every child in Mashunga carries a dream &ndash; a dream that, with a little help, can become a reality.
